Stephen Mengis seems like a legacy attorney. His last name has become almost synonymous with “lawyer” throughout Houston and Baton Rouge, thanks to a father, uncle and grandfather who have all practiced law.
But, 10 minutes with Mr. Mengis will give you all the assurance you need that he’s not in it for the legacy: he’s in it for the people. “I love getting to work with people and helping them put their lives back together.”
Mr. Mengis was born and raised in Houston, but left to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He finished his undergraduate work in 2011, graduating cum laude with dual degrees in mass communication and political science. He stayed in Baton Rouge to attend the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, from which he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2014.
Throughout law school, Mr. Mengis furthered his legal education as a law clerk. He served as clerk for the Honorable Frank J. Polozola, where he got his first taste of practicing law. In the subsequent years, he clerked at bankruptcy and personal injury law firms. During his clerkship at Gordon Arata, he was a contributing author to a paper presented at the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees.
After receiving his Louisiana License, Mr. Mengis returned to Texas, where he really began to pursue his passion: helping others. He practiced personal injury and mass tort law before finding his own home in helping people rebuild theirs.
Currently licensed to practice law in the states of Texas and Louisiana, Mr. Mengis focuses his practice on first party property insurance litigation.
